Monday Makeup Madness: The Best & Worst Cream Eyeshadows
Many big brands have been adding a twist to the regular old powder eyeshadows by creating newer creamy formulas. Creamy shadows generally tend to crease, which is why I like to stay away. But some of these formulas surprised me, as they are long wearing, don’t crease and give an intense color to the eye.
Here are some of the best and worst cream eyeshadows…
1. Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill
This creamy, loose eye shadow gives a velvety finish as it’s a cross between powder and cream. It’s really smooth and is buildable – which means, you can apply a couple of layers depending on how intense you’d like it. It’s so easy to apply, you can even use your finger (cleansed first, of course). Not only do these eyeshadows give an intense color payoff on the eyes, they also add an interesting chrome finish. Comes in 12 shades and you can use them wet or dry!

2. Chanel Illusion D’ombre – Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow
I was very skeptical when I first laid eyes on this eyeshadow because it gave me the impression that the color payoff wouldn’t be as intense as it looks. Boy, was I wrong! This product is fantastic! It’s an intense shimmering long-wear eye shadow, not like any other shadow I’ve tried before. It’s a cross between a gel, powder and mousse in texture. It applies like a dream, no need for a brush, just dip in a clean finger and blend over the eyelids. Because of its gel texture you can also use the darker shades of this product as eyeliner. What I love most about this product is the shimmering effect it gives on the eye! A good product for all those makeup beginners out there who want to achieve a quick and easy Smokey eye look. Comes in a variety of 6 beautiful shades.

3. Makeup Forever – Aqua Eyes
This ultra –pigmented, long lasting waterproof cream eye shadow is great as an eyeshadow base or even alone as a pearlized shadow. You can literally go swimming with this stuff on and it won’t move. Easy to blend with great color pay off, and comes in 21 colors!

4. Revlon Illuminance – Cream Shadow
A palette of four cream eyeshadows that can be used as a base for your eyeshadow or can be worn alone for a soft sheen look. The color variety in this product is great, there are so many different sets to chose from. When wearing this alone however, I found that it looked great at first but over time started to crease and fade. I would recommend this product to use as a quick and easy base under your actual shadow.

5. Yves Saint Laurent ‘Fard Lumiere Aqua-resistant’ Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow
YSL’s cream eyeshadow is more like a mousse eye shadow than a cream. Light and thin, but still thicker than a liquid. Though I really love YSL makeup, this product was disappointing. It comes in 6 colours – but I didn’t like the color selection and most of them didn’t have a good color pay off.

6. Guerlain’s Ombre Fusion Cream Eyeshadows
For anything to do with BRONZE, I always turn to Guerlain. A truly luxurious brand, Guerlain’s 2011 Holiday collection is fabulous. The new Ombre Fusion Cream Eyeshadows are available in 3 limited edition bronzy shades. These cream eyeshadows are best described as soft, light weight and metallic, designed to resist heat and water. The packaging and the color selection is great but the major thing lacking is that it doesn’t last. Looks great upon first application, but ends up disappearing very quickly. Sad to give it thumbs down.

7. Maybelline EyeStudio Cream Eyeshadow
These pretty palettes consist of 3 cream shadows to create a single look. They make life easy by pairing together a base, crease and highlight all in a single palette. As pretty as these palettes look they crease, fade and feel sticky on the eye. Basically everything you DON’T want.

8. MAC Paint Pots
This list couldn’t have been complete without MAC. MAC’s Paint Pots are creamy, highly pigmented eye colours that dry to a vibrant finish. Blending smoothly over the eye, they’re long wearing and come in 13 wearable shades. Wear it alone for some color or under your favorite eyeshadow as a base.

9. Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner
Benefit reflects great out-of-the-box ideas. Always coming up with new products that other companies wouldn’t think of. This creaseless cream shadow (which can also be used as a liner) is blendable – and won’t smudge. You can wear a little for a sheer color on the eye, or layer it for more intensity. This multi use product can be used on the lips, eyes and cheeks. Like I said, Benefits is a truly innovative brand and this product in specific won the ALLURE Best Beauty Award. Comes in 8 beautiful permanent colours and 5 exclusive colours.
